Me chillin' at Laguna Beach, CA.
This is the sixth iteration of my website, released in 2009. The last time I launched a website was in 2004. A lot has changed in both my life as well as web technologies, so I figured it was time for something new.
As you may be able to tell from the design of this website, I'm a huge roadgeek. The design of this website is based on overhead highway signs found on the 400-series highways in Ontario, Canada. Special thanks goes out to Michael Adams for creating a free version of the Highway Gothic typeface (known as Roadgeek), which is used on most highway signs in North America.
I love travelling, exploring highways and looking at maps. I have lived in San Diego, CA for 8 months and have visited several other major U.S. cities. I have also travelled across Europe to over 10 cities. You can check out my adventures on my Photos page.
As well, I'm also a metrophile in the sense that I love riding various forms of public transit, studying the systems and looking up their maps. I'm interested in future planning of rapid transit and watching their progress. I don't own a car and I'm a firm believer that it's not necessary to have a car while living in a city.
I have a strong interest in music. I played piano and have completed Grade 8 Practical and Grade 2 Rudiments examinations from the Royal Conservatory of Music. I also enjoy going to concerts and the artists I have seen play live include (but not limited to): Air, Alicia Keys, The All-American Rejects, The Bravery, Chamillionaire, The Chemical Brothers, The Cool Kids, Diane Birch, Duffy, Fantasia, Ferry Corsten, The Fray, Holy Fuck, Gnarls Barkley, Gym Class Heroes, Incubus, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West, Keys N Krates, Keyshia Cole, The Killers, Lupe Fiasco, Mat Kearney, Matisyahu, M.I.A., N*E*R*D, Ne-Yo, Oasis, The Offspring, OK Go, Paul van Dyk, Peeping Tom, Rihanna, The Roots, Sander Kleinberg, Shiny Toy Guns, Snow, T.I., Timbaland, and Too $hort.
I have been running an Internet radio station since I was 13. It's at HitzRadio.com, and the music format is CHR/Rhythmic with a Pop-lean. It is currently listed on iTunes, AOL's SHOUTcast and more directories. And hey, I got a story on WireTap Magazine/AlterNet too!
My career interest is in software development. I'm currently employed at Volanté Systems, a software firm that specializes in hospitality point-of-sales (POS) software. I have previously worked for Qualcomm and Epson as an intern amongst other placements. My desire is to work in a challenging and rewarding work environment, where hardwork and fun are balanced and both valued. My résumé can be found here.
Other things that I like...
- Starbucks. I like most of their drinks and I try to collect their city mugs from all the cities that I have been to. Although during my time in Southern California, I have slowly drifted towards The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Sorry Starbucks, but their Black Forest Coffee Ice Blended drink is just unbeatable.
- Apple. I own a white Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook, a 5th-generation iPod and an iPhone 3GS.
- Jones Soda. Love 'em all, especially their Cream Soda and Bubble Gum Soda. I even tried their Thanksgiving pack which included such gourmet flavours as Turkey and Gravy and Pea. Yeah, that was gross.
- Techy things. I love to keep up to date with the latest in tech news and play around with new products.
- Rock Band 2. I don't play a lot of video games, but this is certainly one of the ones I can't get enough of, in addition to Mario Kart 64/Wii and multi-player Bomberman.
- Cooking. I'm always curious to try out new recipes and see how they'll turn out. If none of my favourite TV shows are on, I would always put on the Food Network.
- My favourite chocolate bar is Skor, and my favourite flavour of chips is Miss Vicki's Sour Cream & Chili. Although I've lovin' a lot of the new flavours from President's Choice chips.
- At the bar, I like to order an Amaretto Sour or a Killer Kool-Aid (apparently the latter is Canadian).
- I can't swim, even though I passed up to Red when I was a kid. And no, it's not just like riding a bike. True story. I can and will prove you wrong.
- I'm a Liberal (sometimes the 'l' is uncapitalized depending on current policies) and an activist at heart. I love to volunteer and love to stay on top of current events.
- You can probably read more about me on my blog. (Fun fact: I was the 59th member of LiveJournal, so I can claim that I started blogging before blogging became popular!)
